Mosaic tile comes on mesh-backed sheets, so it is ordered by the sheet's coverage, not by individual chips. Read the sheet's square-foot coverage from the box, divide your area by it, add waste, and round up — the same logic, with the sheet as the unit.

Step Two: Tiles Needed, With Waste

The count is area divided by per-tile coverage, multiplied by one plus the waste factor, rounded up to the next whole tile. For 120 sq ft of 12″ tile at 12% waste: 120 ÷ 1 = 120 tiles, times 1.12 = 134.4, rounded up to 135 tiles. The rounding is always up, because you cannot buy a fraction of a tile and coming up one short stops the job.

How to Measure for Tile
